Historical notes

  • Formerly associated with Rosso Bianco Museum
  • Possibly now associated with Louwman Museum (disputed)
  • AutomotiveMasterpieces.com lists related chassis as 10814355 (identity uncertain)
  • Strong indication that this car is **not** the Louwman Museum car
  • Confusion exists regarding identification as Gianni Lurani’s racing car
  • John de Boer’s attribution of 8513016 as another racing 6C 1500 Gran Sport is considered incorrect in current research

Lurani connection (identity under review)

Research suggests that the Lurani car:

  • Was purchased new by Gianni Lurani
  • Received a body of Lurani’s own design built by Campari & Sorniotti
  • Underwent numerous developmental mechanical and visual modifications
  • Was extensively documented in Lurani’s writings
  • Appeared in Sports Car World (Australia), spring 1931
  • Had competed in over a dozen events by early 1931
  • Was later reportedly converted to 6C 1750 specification for events near Wiesbaden (where no 1500cc class existed)

It remains unclear whether chassis 851.3016 corresponds to that Lurani car.
